Kendi Karimi graduated top of her class with first-class honors in Mass Communication. Her short story, What Does It Mean To Be Kind Anyway, was shortlisted for the Wakini Kuria Prize for children’s literature in 2021. In 2022, the story ‘Number 27′ was shortlisted for the African Writers Awards. In 2024, she was nominated for People’s Choice Award “African Author of the Year”. ‘Our Brief Heavenly Hour’ has also been featured by Writer’s Space Africa and her work has been recognized by BIC group and EUEPA. Her first poetry collection, The Cages We Built, premiered at #4 on Amazon’s bestseller list. She has written for various respectable media houses, newspapers, blogs, magazines, and creative institutions.

Everything about this book is quality. From the packaging to its contents. I’m still sipping and slipping in-between the lines and pages of her poems. The book is definitely worth my time, energy and it will be worth your money too. The poems are easy to digest but still pack a punch. Very relatable, very deep. I have put her among the leagues of R.H.Sin. Yes, you read that right. The poems are that great: the rhymes, alliteration here and there, imagery invoked…I can’t get enough. This is heavenly.

The book's plot revolves around the life of a 36-year-old lady, Mukami. Anchoring the plot on romance, the author puts together a gripping story of a lady who is grappling with her dark past which appears to still have a vice-like grip in her present life.
